What exactly is acute alcohol poisoning, and how is it treated? Here is some important info you need to know should this situation arise so that you know how to treat it as quickly as effectively as possible.

Very simply, acute alcohol poisoning is just another term for alcohol poisoning, but it’s one and the same. This situation happens when somebody drinks too much in too short a time period, and as result their liver cannot digest the alcohol quickly enough.

You see, alcohol is extremely hard for the liver to process, which is the main reason it’s so harmful to the health when drunk too much. Especially when drunk too fast, alcohol can be deadly.

Eventually, the heart rate will slow down, as well your breathing and your blood pressure will drop. How much alcohol is too much?

A general rule of thumb is that you should not drink more than one glass every 2 hours, because this is the time period it takes for your liver to properly digest the alcohol. If you drink more than this, you are at risk of getting acute alcohol poisoning.

Unfortunately, many people die from alcohol poisoning each year, as it is a very deadly thing that should be taken very seriously. It does so by alternating your bodily functions I just described, and slowing them down to the point where you pass out, and often times will die if not treated immediately.

Binge drinking has contributed to the deaths of alcohol poisoning immensely, as this is where people essentially go out drinking for the sole purpose of getting drunk, and therefore they drink many glasses in a short period of time to make this happen. Usually, getting drunk is the only thing that will come of it, but on some occasion, it can result in acute alcohol poisoning.

If you do make it through the process, you very often will need to have your stomach pumped in order to eliminate the excess alcohol, and sometimes may experience long term mental affects from the poisoning.

What should you do if somebody you know is experiencing acute alcohol poisoning? First of all, you need to know the symptoms to look for. if they’ve passed out, they very likely may have experienced it, or if their skin turning blue and is cold.

Other things to watch out for include slow speech, the inability to stand up or walk comfortably, erratic behavior, etc. Obviously, some of these symptoms aren’t a guarantee of alcohol poisoning, but certainly should put you on the alert.

However, if they are passed out, absolute call for help immediately. While you are waiting for the ambulance, make sure to lay them on their side so that they don’t choke on their own vomit, if they do throw up in between the time you call and the ambulance gets there.

Once you’ve done this, the situation is pretty much out of your hands. Hopeful these tips will help you know hat to look for, an then do, if someone you know is experiencing acute alcohol poisoning.
