In the last two years, Sneaky Sound System has been diligently, and somewhat sneakily, some might say, climbing their way to the top of the charts. The group’s beginnings were somewhat inauspicious. In fact, the group has actually compared themselves to an electronic garage band with dreams of achieving stadium success. While at one time those ideas might have seemed to be just mere delusions, today it has rapidly become apparent that the group is headed for far more success than they might have ever dreamed possible.

In the beginning, the group experienced success on a local basis in Sydney, where the group was first formed. Local DJs and radio stations quickly caught on to the group’s unique Funky House Music tinged sound and blasted the airwaves with Sneaky Sound System’s first releases. It did not take long for fans to catch on to the unique sound of the group as well and to become devoted to this eclectic group.

Of course, that was all before the multi-talented Connie Mitchell joined the group. Since that time, the group has gone on to achieve phenomenal success, even breaking records that have certainly caught the attention of fans and critics alike. Their hit song ‘I Love It’ made it onto the ARIA Top 100 singles charts and remained there for an astounding 70 weeks. This feat broke the record of 69 weeks which had previously been held by The Living End, during a period from 1997 to 1999.

Of course, this is not the only record Sneaky Sound System has been able to achieve in just two short years since the group began to make their way to not only national acclaim, but international success as well. In 2007 the group was nominated for six ARIA Music Awards. No other Australian artist achieved as many nominations that same year. Furthermore, Sneaky Sound System tied with the number of nominations to have ever been received by an independent group or artist. They went on to win two major awards that year.

Their self-titled debut album has also gone platinum not once, but twice. Other major accomplishments include sold-out stadium tours that have drawn devoted fans from around the country.

While these are certainly tremendous accomplishments, especially for a band that is an independent act without a major record company backing them along the way, they will certainly not be the last records that we will see broken by this tremendously talented group. The next stop on the tour of success for the group is certain to be international acclaim. The group is already being noticed by fans in both the UK as well as the USA. The release of Sneaky Sound System’s second album, due in Australian stores in July, will provide more insight into where the group is headed next. It will certainly be no surprise if the group garners even more nominations this year than last year or if their second album continues the trend by breaking chart records.
